Untitled

2007, NJ relating to NYC

I spent two days traveling around mostly Jersey City in hopes to find a good image. For me, city scape is not my most favorite subject to photograph, so I tried to look for everything possible that would relate New Jersey to New York City. I tried both the big and small, natural and man made. I feel that this photograph is the strongest out of all that I took. It is part of a September 11th memorial on the waterfront. With the diagonal lines of the nails striking out against the city in the background, I feel that this does a good representation of one aspect of Jersey City and NYC.

i've noticed through most of ur pictures you have a knack for showing contrast in your shots. Once again this is another shot with good contrast. You can also tell u chose a good day to make this contrast happen, it was probably a day that was not too sunny and not too cloudy either. I remember this was one of my favorite shots out of the bunch in our class just because it comes off so dramatic. The nails kind of come off as if new jersey is barred off from nyc, and because nyc is far off it seems a bit dreamey.

great photo, and being in black and white makes it so much better, being color i don't think would have been the same effect. the bars are like the same hight as the tall buildings in nyc. newark and nyc seem to be barred off to one another, newark seems so tough and rough and nyc is so far off, and pleasent

This photo is so different it really ties in the stereotypical ideas of new jersey and new york. good old, run down new jersey against glamorous new york city.

the juxtoposition is awesome. right on for the project. The immense visual that nails give really made this picture.

The way the nails border the city as if they were a frame is awesome. As people said before the black and white shows the stereotypes of ny vs. nj.
