Thoughts

2007, NYC Marathon

Although this is not the best photograph from the marathon, I have a strong liking for it. I found this person sitting on a rock, staring at the race from afar. What I liked about him was the mysticism he gave. From this perspective, you're asked to think about what is he really staring at? Why did he decide to distance himself from everyone else? In some ways, I think it represents me.

I appreciate how you see the man's isolation from the rest of the world, however I see the natural setting given off by the tree effecting the man and creating that isolation and contemplative state. The man is barely making a mark on the tree, whereas the tree is giving off an aura that resonates through the picture. This is especially present given the bent and curved state of its trunk and branches.

your black and white phots are great because they show so much detail!

the lack of color, it really works in this picture. I love the way the dark tree and the the persons coat are the two darkest parts of the image.
